Glory of the Hero: Bait Company Style

Yeah.  As you can see Barklay has a long way to go before he’s any kind of Glorious Hero.

Being a new toon to the World: Barklay was started launch night, leveled up through the Worgen starting area, and then was recruit-a-friend catapulted up to level 60 where he joined Marv for the ultimate in WoW zones:  Hellfire Peninsula.

Marv had pretty much shut down his WoW playing, and was somewhat on the fence to if he was going to make it for Cataclysm.  Fortunately he decided he did want to play again.  A lost authenticator/screwed up account just led to a completely new account for Marv.  All new toons for him. It was a perfect time to start fresh for me, and get back to the class I love the most:  druid.

If you don’t count the coma I went into for Hellfire, Terokkar, and Nagrand–I actually didn’t have that bad of a time leveling Barklay. Yes, I complained the entire time in Outland–but once I got to Borean Tundra I was fine.  Heirloom items, and our guild’s over-achieving play style led to early perks in experience as I leveled.

A couple of things to note:  Marv loves leveling. I hate it. Marv loves quests, and clearing zones of quests. I hate them all. Marv enjoys working on achievements, I enjoy achieving nothing. When it comes to a pair of WoWers, we are vastly different. He is analytical and reserved.  I use the charge first, and hope to hell things get CC’d on the fly mentality.

Unfortunately, Marv’s internets have been seriously on the blink–so we haven’t been really running heroics. He’s conscious enough of our guildmates time and energy to not want to start an instance that he won’t be able to finish based on latency, or his (lack of) connection.  We’ve had to replace him twice now–and he’s not keen to have it happen again.

So, our new project took shape.  The Glory of the Hero achievements Two-Man version.  We got started this afternoon (Sunday the 30th) and started with The Nexus. We had to take two cracks at Split Personality. Mostly because of more Marv connection issues, but an overzealous bear really mangled the you-know-what out of one of the Magus’ alter forms–making it pretty hard to keep her alive for the rest of the fight. She is resettable, so that was good. The rest of the achievements were pretty simple.

The Oculus was/is/always will be a pain in the ass. We’re pretty certain we’re going to need to grab a couple buddies for some of the drake related achievements–but we really surprised ourselves by being able to pick up Amber Void and Make it Count. We weren’t even sure we’d be able to beat Ley-Guardian Eregos–as the drakes don’t seem to scale as much as we thought they would.

That’s me up there with my red drake buddy, (I think his name is Steve) and a dead Eregos.

We know we’re not doing anything super-l33t or Uber, or whatever word you want to use–but we like a bit of a challenge, and we can work on this without bumming anyone else out over Marv’s connection.

We’ll keep you updated on how it’s going.

Cheers, Bark
